Yorba Linda planning guide

Plan the right porta potty count for your event

For a 100-person, 4-hour event, our planning model starts at 2 restrooms. Serving alcohol adds 1, for 3 total. Include accessible units within that count and check the venue’s actual requirements.

100 guests ÷ 50, rounded up = 2 units. Planning assumption, not a code minimum.

How to read this table: These are planning assumptions, not an official event code or a supplier capacity promise. The baseline uses 1 unit per 200 guest-hours, rounded up. It assumes no existing usable toilets and requires a separate review of accessibility, peaks, and servicing.

The math, with no percentages to calculate

  1. Multiply the number of guests by the occupied hours.
  2. Divide that number by 200 and round up to a whole unit.
  3. For alcohol, add 1 unit per 5 baseline units or part of 5.
  4. Allocate accessible units within the resulting count for every required cluster.
  5. Review permanent restrooms, food service, peak breaks, and local requirements with the planner.

If there is no alcohol, keep the baseline before the remaining reviews. This rule is deliberately visible so you can see how the tool works; it is not presented as a published regulatory ratio.

Existing restrooms need a usability check

Do not simply subtract every toilet in a venue building. Confirm that it will be open, usable, adequately supplied, accessible where required, and available to your guests for the full event. A separate public-use demand or a locked facility can change the plan.

Access is a route, not just a unit

For covered public events, ADA §213.2 Exception 3 requires accessible portable units in each cluster. In whole numbers, plan at least 1 accessible unit for every 20 units or part of 20 in each cluster. Two clusters of 10 need 1 accessible unit in each cluster, for 2 total. Count them within the total, rather than automatically adding them on top.

A compliant layout also needs an accessible approach, door maneuvering space, required grab bars, and fixture clearances. ADA §304 allows a 60-inch-diameter turning circle or a compliant T-shaped turn. A wide cabin alone is not proof of compliance. Coordinate California and venue-specific requirements with the responsible authority.

Yorba Linda context changes the layout

A backyard birthday with food and cake benefits from a separate sink so handwashing does not hold up the toilet queue. A public gathering near Town Center needs a check with the event organizer and the City. At nearby Yorba Regional Park, contact OC Parks about its existing facilities and event permissions.

In warm weather, plan shade where feasible without obstructing ventilation. If rain or irrigation softens a lawn, reassess the ground and accessible path before delivery. Spread usable facilities sensibly without creating inaccessible isolated clusters.

More people is not the only reason for more service

Longer hours, concentrated intermissions, food and drinks, and a multi-day event can all change the operational plan. Do not derive guaranteed uses from a holding-tank volume. Request the actual model and a servicing schedule that fits the event.
